Had the pleasure of seeing Nas perform with the National Symphony in DC this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the best records of all time, Illmatic. Safe to say I will never see a show like that again. There’s not many records I have listened to for that long and I have never seen Nas live. Hearing those songs performed brought back a lot of memories of the year it came out that I did not expect. The orchestra did an amazing job and that definitely added to the nostalgic and triumphant vibe of the show. There were moments that were unreal that had everyone on their feet. He even did his verse from live at the BBQ. One of the highlights of the set was when the orchestra left and it was just essentially Nas and all he needed, one mic. I would hope the younger kids that saw this show or hear it later remember that is how he made it there to begin with.
Picked up this shirt for $30 and I plan on wearing and washing it to death until it’s faded to perfection. Someone once told me a good hip hop shirt is like seeing The Yeti. Not my favorite design but I wanted to grab something from the show and you can’t go wrong with a young Nas photo. Surprised they didn’t go bigger on the 20th Anniversary merch but selling merch was not what this show was about. Great show. Glad I made the trip up. All I need is one shirt.p>
